‍Fort Worth Author’s Children’s Book Encourages Self-Worth, Kindness and Belonging

‍FORT WORTH, Texas — What began as a children’s book about a little corgi with a big message is becoming an opportunity to help children recognize their own worth — and the value of the children around them.‍ ‍

Written for children ages 6–10, Think Royal: The New Kid on the Block introduces Phoebe, a Pembroke Welsh corgi who believes every child should learn to “Think Royal” — not because of crowns or castles, but because every child has inherent value. ‍ ‍

The book’s message took on new significance for author Kendra Prince during a recent event in Fort Worth.‍ ‍

While talking with a family who stopped at her table, Prince learned that one of the children had experienced bullying serious enough to affect her school experience.

Prince, who was bullied herself as a child, talked privately with the young reader about knowing her value regardless of what other children might say.

‍ The encounter changed Prince’s perspective on what she had created.

‍“I went to the event hoping to sell books,” she said. “I came away realizing the greater opportunity may be in the conversations the book can begin. Children need people reminding them that they matter, that kindness is powerful and that someone else’s cruelty does not determine their worth.”

‍Prince is exploring ways to expand the Think Royal message beyond the book through resources and activities for children, families and organizations. Possibilities include parent-child discussion materials, school and community activities, author presentations and other resources centered on self-worth, kindness, respect and belonging.

‍She also is seeking opportunities to connect with schools, literacy organizations, youth mentoring programs, children’s nonprofits, churches and other community organizations interested in exploring how the Think Royal message and future resources could complement their work with children.

‍ “This isn’t about telling children they’re better than everyone else,” Prince said. “Thinking Royal means understanding that you have value — and recognizing that the child sitting beside you does, too. If children really understand both of those things, it changes the way they see themselves and the way they treat other people.”
